This set includes the first 13
episodes of HBO's outstanding Emmy-winning series THE
SOPRANOS, created by David Chase. Join Tony Soprano and both
of his families--wife and kids, fellow wiseguys--as they
deal with balancing their work with their lives. The
episodes include "The Sopranos" (series premiere);
"46 Long"; "Denial, Anger, Acceptance";
"Meadowlands"; "College"; "Pax
Soprana"; "Down Neck"; "Legend of
Tennessee Moltisanti"; "Boca"; "A Hit Is
a Hit"; "Nobody Knows Anything";
"Isabella"; and "I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano."
The series stars James Gandolfini in a career-making
performance as Tony Soprano, a Mafia leader who is having
trouble dealing with his mother and family and so starts to
see a shrink. The terrific supporting cast features Edie
Falco as Tony's beleaguered wife, Carmela; Lorraine Bracco
as Tony's put-upon psychiatrist, Dr. Melfi; Michael
Imperioli as loose cannon Christopher Moltisanti; Steven Van
Zandt as Silvio, owner of the Bada-Bing; and the
incomparable Nancy Marchand, in one of the great television
performances, as Livia Soprano, Tony's conniving,
controlling mother. The writing, directing, and acting are
impeccable, making for one of the most enjoyable viewing
events of the 1990s.
"...Among TV's finest hours, and it's
worth buying this set just to own them..."
"...Each program is self-contained
and the array of characters is dazzling..."
"...Gandolfini is mesmerising, his
mood on a hair-trigger, equally able to convey ferocity,
depression and schoolboy mischief..."

Tony Soprano returns, as does
the entire cast (at least those that have not been whacked) in
a box set chronicling the complete second season of the highly
acclaimed HBO series. Tony continues to have family
troubles--both immediate and otherwise--as he adjusts to being
the new don of one of the most notorious crime syndicates in
America. This season is packed with violent action, hilarious
comedy, and the signature unspoken sexual longings between
Tony (James Gandolfini) and his psychiatrist Dr. Melfi
(Lorraine Bracco). This season also includes the first
intimacy seen between Tony and his wife Carmela (Edie Falco)
and the death of Barbara's father-in-law.
"...As usual, crack character acting
abounds, in Alicia Witt's turn as a skin-deep film executive,
Peter Bogdanovich's shrink's shrink, and THE X-FILES star
Robert Patrick's arc as a 'happy wanderer'..."

drama, THE SOPRANOS. This season, the bodies continue to pile,

better with age. Viewers can only hope that creator David
Chase will continue to create new story lines that will keep
these characters in our lives for years to come--if they don't
get whacked first.

His
separation hasn't been working out. His nephew's fiance has
become a distraction. His paroled cousin is giving off bad
vibes. His business rival is looking for payback. His
therapist isn't buying into the "other Tony." It's
enough to send any mob boss over the edge. Hell hath no fury
like The Sopranos. |
